I went ahead nonetheless and reinstalled the client application, forgot the machine as a source and re-added it, and am back where I started. Have I missed something or do you have any other suggestions? Are there ways of dealing with this more gracefully, and most importantly, automatically? Even though the engine and console see the client as ready if the client reports in use this error can occur. There are a great number of them but the ones mentioned above are the most typical. check here Copyright © 2016 Retrospect, Inc. I'm sure your using the latest and greatest, but if not upgrade your clients (preferably by uninstalling and reinstalling as opposed to pushing it) and it may just go away. Several functions may not work.

I use it for back-ups and equipment benchmarcks. Error 505 "Client on reserve" Started retrospect on the client and turned it off than back on. Usable system and files all prefrences inplace and set after recovery. When you browse the source can you actually see a volume called Backups because if you can not then it would explain why you are getting the -505 error.
